We are thrilled to share that our Fašiangy celebration was a wonderful success! On the last school day of January The festive spirit filled the air as we celebrated this cherished carnival tradition together.
Throughout the day, the children participated in fun activities like dancing, singing, and traditional Fašiangy games. They loved expressing their creativity and energy, and the colorful decorations added to the cheerful atmosphere. We also enjoyed some delicious treats.
The highlight of the event was the parade around the preschool whilst singing traditional Slovak folk songs. It was a joyful and heartwarming moment for everyone, and we were so proud of their enthusiasm and participation. Celebrating traditions like Fašiangy not only brings fun but also fosters a sense of identity and belonging in the children, helping them appreciate the richness of their cultural roots.
Your support helped create a memorable day for the children, and we’re so grateful to have shared this celebration of tradition and community together.

In January, we had special visitors from our Benjamin Preschool in Pezinok. As some of you may know, we have two pets, and our two little, big friends came to spend the holidays with us in Senec. Yes, we’re talking about two African snails, who have been with us for quite some time now.
First, we familiarized ourselves with the snails—learning about the kind of animals they are, what they eat and drink, how to take care of them, and what is important for their well-being. During their stay at our preschool, we had the opportunity to observe their behavior. We watched how the snails eat and drink, how they act when they feel secure or insecure, and how we should properly handle them. We learned so many important things about taking care of a pet that needs attention.
We had so much fun! Thank you to our Pezinok friends for bringing them to visit, and we look forward to when they can visit us again!
Bunnies Class
This month Bunnies have been learning about the fascinating world of winter birds! During our discussions we explored how birds adapt to the cold season and what challenges they face when food becomes scarce. To make this learning experience hands-on, we created our own birdhouse using recycled materials and also our little birdhouse piece of art. The children filled the birdhouses with seeds and learned which seeds are there, a.e. Sunflower seeds, suet and millet are great options to help our feathered friends stay strong and healthy during the cold weather.
This activity helped children understand the importance of taking care of animals during challenging seasons. Watching the birds visit our feeders has been a delightful way for the kids to connect with nature and practice kindness. We encourage you to continue this learning at home by setting up a small feeder in your garden or on a windowsill. Observing the birds together can be a wonderful family activity that teaches children about compassion and environmental stewardship.
Kindergarten Class
Our weekly Kindergarten Class show and tell lessons are fun & engaging, helping young language learners to feel more confident & comfortable using newly acquired vocabulary in different contexts , whilst speaking in sentences. As their language speaking skills advance, they become more comfortable answering questions from the teacher, as well as their friends, which in turn allows them to develop their communicative skills. This weekly lesson serves as great preparation for future homework and presentation skills in front of classmates.
Each week children are given a different task related to the monthly unit or lesson focus areas . As one of our focus areas in January was learning about Shapes, we reserved one show and tell lesson specifically catering to this theme. Children were tasked with bringing one item with a triangle shape, and one item with a circle shape. Both objects came packed in a small dark coloured bag, that no one could see through. Each child came prepared with a quiz question to ask the class, which was related to one of the objects in their bag as well as the correct answer. It was great seeing children engage their critical thinking skills, whilst interacting & learning together in a nurturing setting.

The beautiful winter month of January is behind us. Even though the weather didn't bring a lot of snow during January, we made a snowman on paper.
For this activity, we needed blue, orange, and white paper, glue, white and black tempera paints, a cork stopper, and paint bowls. On the blue paper, we pasted a white snowman with his orange 'carrot' nose. Then, we made black eyes, a mouth, and buttons with the cork stopper. Finally, we surrounded the snowman with white snowflakes using our fingers.
If you're excited about it, you can do it too!
Bees Class
Sorting objects by color is a simple but effective preschool activity that supports early learning and development. It helps young children improve their observation skills and ability to recognize patterns. This hand-on activity also encourages problem- solving and strengthens early math concepts such as classification and comparison. By naming the objects we developed our vocabulary and we talked also about our favourite color. We tried to make this activity interesting and playful which enhances children’s enthusiasm and learning experience..

Learning in January belonged to the unit “Winter, Fašiangy and Pets”. Children naturally love animals so talking about pets - animals we keep at home - was very interesting for them. We discussed what animals we might keep this way in order to provide for them the best conditions (because for example having a chimpanzee might sound cool but not that much possible :-). Then we talked about their care, needs and we compared what needs, for example a dog but fish do not - going for a walk, etc. Children shared their experiences with their pets and they also enriched their vocabulary (names of animals, names of equipment they need). Then they could choose a pet they would like to make a poster about.
