May & June in Benjamin Preschool

Benjamin Preschool Senec

Tiger and Lion Class

During the month of June we learned the importance of community helpers. The Tiger and Lion classes learned all about what chefs do, where they work, and why they are important in our communities.

The Tiger Class made delicious chocolate chip muffins. Baking with kids is not only a fun and enjoyable activity, but it also offers numerous benefits for their development. One of the main advantages of baking with kids is that it allows them to enhance their motor skills. From measuring ingredients to mixing and kneading dough, these activities require precision and coordination, which help children improve their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Moreover, baking can also teach kids important life skills, such as following instructions and practicing patience.

The Lion Class in turn did a role-play activity in which they pretended to be chefs in a world-class restaurant. Our young chefs engaged in imaginative pretend play and discussion by observing what their playmates decided to cook, and the utensils they used. Role-play activities like this improves vocabulary and are perfect opportunities for practicing numeracy skills.

Cooking and role-play are fun educational experiences for a broad age spectrum. They spark creativity, inspire learning through sensory play, boost social skills and so much more.

Bunny Class

International Firefighters' Day is observed on May 4 annually to honor the heroes who risk their lives to safeguard their communities. It serves as a day to recognise and appreciate the sacrifices of firefighters who protect their communities and save lives while putting their own in danger. Bunny class as a fan of all firefighters of course did not forget about their special day. Through practical activities everyone in the class tried their duties as well we discussed what to do in case of fire, we had a proper fire drill where we succeeded. We were following exit signs and went to an agreed meeting point outside. As a reward children could try the proper, original, a bit smelly,  firefighter uniform as well as their heavy shoes and special captain helmet. We learnt a lot, we had  fun, and a mission succeed.

The Kindergarten Class spent the month of May focused on the unit " Community Helpers." As educators, we try to prepare our students for any possible situation they may find themselves in, from teaching simple tasks like memorizing their phone numbers to how to react when they see someone hurt. In the context of emergency situations, it’s vital to introduce the concept of community helpers to children, to help them recognize and trust the people who are charged to serve and protect, like firefighters, doctors and nurses, and the police.

It’s common for young children to avoid strangers, as that is generally a lesson we teach at home and in schools. However, in an emergency situation like a house fire, children will need to recognize and understand that the stranger in a uniform is there to help and bring them to safety. Learning about various community helpers exposes preschoolers to the diversity of careers and roles within society. Early exposure promotes inclusivity by acknowledging and respecting different professions.

Ms. Jojka's Class

This whole month we have been discussing to topic of community helpers. We talked about different jobs we know and how each job is important for our lives. So it´s no wonder that the question was asked: What you want to be when you grow up..? There were many different answers, but the top was: I want to be a princess. So we wish you all your dreams come true.

The Three Little Kittens

This classic nursery rhyme serves as the base for the lesson and activities.

The three little kittens, they lost their mittens,

And they began to cry,

“Oh, mother dear, we sadly fear,

That we have lost our mittens.”

“What! Lost your mittens, you naughty kittens!

Then you shall have no pie.”

“Meow, meow, meow.”

“Then you shall have no pie.”

From assembling simple paper puppets, hanging and washing mittens, matching shapes, singing the song together (children loved the meowing and purring parts) to making a pie, students were excited to discover new ways to express themselves while learning more about the animal kingdom they love. Plus, connecting their knowledge supplements with hands-on activities helped them better understand how complex concepts work together. In short, animal crafts are great fun for children and help spark their natural love of exploration, learning, and creativity!

Physical Education (PE) Activities are more than important in the child’s development. It not only helps with physical condition and fitness but also helps with cerebral brain hemispheres connections.

Plus if it is made in a playful way there isn’t a child that does not want to join :-) Every week we enjoy PE class in the park class and you can see one of the games we did. Usually we do many kids of warm up exercises, movement games, jumps, tossing and catching a ball, etc. Particularly this game was focused on speed, concentration and dexterity. Children in each were supposed to work as a team and move the balls from the front circle to the back by handling a ball one by one. They did great!
