September in Benjamin Preschool

Benjamin Preschool Senec

Ms. Lala's Class

This month in Miss Lala’s class we learned about our families and where we come from. Family members are the most important people in young children’s lives, and impact how infants and toddlers develop and learn. Introducing family members to toddlers is all about making the learning process enjoyable and relatable. We started by using simple, age-appropriate language and visuals, like photos or drawings, to help children associate faces and names. We then engaged them in fun activities, games, and songs that involve different family members to reinforce this learning. We also role-played as various family members to make the process interactive.

Ms. Anna's Class

Ms. Anna’s Class learned more about apples this month. Some apples are sweet, like a delicious dessert, while others are a little sour, like a funny face. I assessed the students background knowledge about apples. We talked about who liked apples, what we knew about them, where they came from and what colours they can be.

Though we did an array of activities, making delicious applesauce was definitely a highlight. Children love this activity because they get to eat the end product, so it's a great way to sneak in a ton of other learning opportunities. I not only encouraged kids to eat healthy but made sure they had fun throughout.

Bunnies Class

“The Enormous Turnip” is an excellent story for children to learn about the power of unity. This story taught them how to work in a team, which is an essential skill.

Besides that they tried to grate the turnip, paint with the turnip and of course they tasted a turnip.

There are many different ways to use one well known story for education. Through the drama play, practical activities with the turnip children got to know this special and very healthy vegetable typical for fall season.

Did you know?

The bulb portion of turnips is a good source of vitamin C, and the greens contain folate, calcium and vitamin E. Large turnips were used to carve Jack-O-Lanterns prior to the pumpkin. The roots, stems and leaves of a turnip are all edible.

Kindergarten Class

Phonics is a way of teaching children how to read and write. It helps them hear, identify, and use different sounds that distinguish one word from another in the English language.

The ability to isolate the beginning sound in a word is an important phonemic awareness skill that is highly related to reading acquisition and reading achievement . Beginning sounds or initial sounds are the sounds at the beginning of words or the ones made by letters at the start of a word. For example, in the word “King”, the beginning sound is ‘K’. The ability to isolate and identify the first sound in a word is an easier skill than segmenting words or blending sounds in words, therefore Beginning Sound Fluency is essential for developing phonemic awareness at the beginning of Kindergarten.

As always we like to make the learning process fun through engaging games & activities. In addition to "Colour The Beginning Sound" and "I Spy The Beginning Sound" games, our favourite during the month of September was the Beginning Letter Sound- Image match cards. It's been a joy supporting our Kindergarteners in building a strong foundation to build their phonemic awareness.

Benjamin Preschool Pezinok

Ladybug Class

We have successfully completed the first month during which the children learned a lot and had a lot of fun during various activities. One of the most popular activities was the recognition of various natural materials - straw, sticks and bricks.

How best to present these materials? Of course through the tale of The Three Little Pigs.

In the end, we did not forget to build our "own house" from these materials.

Bees Class

The great way to work on our graphomotorics is through a story. We used a story about animals which were hiding underneath a mushroom during rain. We joined the forest friends, used our imagination and pretended to hide to not get wet. We used our little fingers to draw the rain in the air and then we drew lines on a piece of paper. We had fun while developing our skills together.

Kindergarten Class

Art education is a part of kindergarten on a daily basis either through drawing, coloring, painting or modeling. If there is a field trip it is also educational - experiencing something special and that topic being presented in the preschool before. Kindergarten class visited a gallery Nedbalka in Bratislava but before the visit itself, the children focused on what they can expect from such a visit, what they can see there. Nedbalka gallery is known for exhibiting the works of famous Slovak artists. One of the artist we gave a special attention to was Ľudovít Fulla - the founder of modern painting. We talked about some works we would see there, what colors he used..and we turned one of his paintings into his original :).
